Howden Town CC 179-7, 40 overs
Newport 2nd CC 91 all out, 27 overs
Howden entertained Newport on Saturday in their second game back in Saturday cricket.
The Newport skipper won the toss and asked Howden to make first use on a wicket that looked like it would offer the bowling team plenty of assistance.
Howden openers Matthew Smith and Damian Sharp made a slow start tied down by some excellent bowling from Newport Skipper P. Tough and D. Lefevre who made best use of the wicket.
Smith started to find his feet driving the ball sweetly until falling to an inside edge to the keeper of the bowling of Tough for 18 in the 14th over.
James Smith (5) entered the fray and was bowled after leaving and ball that seemed in sharply from Tough.
A steady stream of wickets fell with Dick Salmon (7), Andy Boggitt (Golden duck), Danny Kew (1) and Eddie Salmon (1) taking Howden to 91 for six.
Andy Smith came to the crease and supported Sharp superbly the latter bring up his fifty in the 30th over.
Then the onslaught started with Sharp stroking the ball to all parts of the ground ably supported by A. Smith who was playing some superb shots of his own.
Sharp brought up his century in the final over after pulling a short ball from Leferve through mid-wicket.
A. Smith was then dismissed caught by the keeper of Tough for an excellent 18 ending the 88 run partnership.
Sharp was joined by Billy Salmon for the last over and dispatched the last ball of the innings for six to gain maximum batting points and finishing on 107 not out and more importantly the team to an impressive 179 for seven.
After a fabulous tea from Julie Sharp and Beryl Gilford, Howden started to make in roads into the Newport batting line up with veteran Andy Smith (1-19) and Sixteen year old fast bowler Eddie [glow=red,2,300]SALMON[/glow](2-23) dismissing three Newport batsman in the first few overs taking the score to 10 for three.
A Mitchell and skipper P Tough then steadied the ship before fourteen year old Jack Allen (2-13) removed the pair for 16 and 21 respectively.
Old time swing bowler Danny Kew (3-17) then removed the middle order of Newport taking three wickets in short time.
D. Salmon on a hat-trick after taking the final two wickets of the previous match removed J. Lefevre to rapturous applause from the spectators to complete a memorable hat-trick.
D. Salmon then wrapped up the Newport Innings giving Howden a victory by 88 runs.
Howden entertain Hornsea on Saturday 14th May at the Ashes, play starts at 2pm.
